History

In January 2000, I started creating a webcomic about a character I'd been drawing since middle school - Sporkman. This proto-Sporkman lasted until October 2001, when I promptly realized how terrible it was and stopped. You won't find these comics online anymore. Promise me you won't try and find them, 'kay?

It took several years before I'd try drawing Sporkman again. In 2004, Keenspot was putting together a page of comic strips to place in newspapers, and I figured the time was right to strike. Thus, the adorable chibi Sporkman was born. The first forty or so comic strips you see in the archives at this website are from that newspaper endevour.

After the newspaper deal blew away, I kept making the strips on and off until the summer of 2005 until I decided to hang it up for good. Life got too busy and I didn't have time for the silly little Sporkman.

This brings us to today (Summer 2008). I decided to bring the little guy back to life, because several of my friends have admitted to liking Sporkman more than my other comics. Go figure.

Archives

The Sporkman archives can be divided into a few different eras, usually coinciding with when they were created.

The Adventures of Sporkman began in 2004 and was both created and posted fairly inconsistantly up until May 2005. The story itself takes place in 2000/2001, not that it matters much.

The Second Coming of Sporkman is a period of comics that began in July of 2005 and was posted in bits and pieces until September of 2005. It brought Sporkman into the then-present of 2005, for those of you filling out your "canon checksheets."

Sporkman FTW! is what I've begun in 2008.* As far as the story, such as it is, is concerned, I have no idea when it takes place. Probably still 2005, but who knows. It never really matters.

*As an aside, the first six strips of 2008 were actually drawn in 2005 and 2006, but never posted. I put them online along with the new strips because they didn't deserve to rot on my hard drive forever.

Cast

The cast in Sporkman tends to vary wildly, with people popping up in and out of strips seemingly at random. That said, there are a few people you can count on showing up on a regular basis.

Sporkman: Duh. He's a superhero that isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. His body is encased in an indestructable plastic shell. He died once, but don't worry - he comes back later. ZOMG SPOILER!

Sophie: Sporkman's current best friend, landlord, and sidekick. She's the most adorable mad scientist ever.

Amanda: The leggy blonde news reporter that found Sporkman after he crash-landed on Earth. She also factored slightly into his resurrection before promptly disappearing.

Rob: Amanda's cameraman who was fated to die and apparently did after a while (not that we ever saw it happen).

Andie: Sporkman's one-time nemesis and/or friend. Amanda did not approve of Andie's relationship with Sporkman - villains should not be hanging out with heroes.

The Spammer & Guanoman: Sporkman's dim-witted arch-enemies. They seem to have vanished.
